The Special Committee, established under Section 15 of the Anti-Rape (Investigation and Trial) Act, 2021, was created to strengthen oversight and accountability in the implementation of the law. Appointed by the Ministry of Law and Justice, the Committee may include members from government ministries, divisions, departments, retired judges, legislators, legal and medical professionals, public servants, and civil society organizations, serving on a pro bono basis.
The Committee is tasked with setting performance standards, developing key performance indicators, and measuring compliance to ensure effective implementation of the Act. The Special Committee is empowered to coordinate across federal and provincial agencies, request information, and monitor institutional performance. Beyond performance oversight, the Committee is also empowered to direct relevant institutions, require compliance, and refer cases of non-compliance to appropriate authorities.
